Draft of SF Bike Mayor Proclamation

                                Proclamation

                National Bicycle Greenway Day


By virtue of the authority vested in me as the Bike Mayor of the City of San Francisco, I do hereby issue this proclamation honoring


NATIONAL BICYCLE GREENWAY (NBG) DAY



May 15, 2010


      WHEREAS, the bicycle was the first personal transportation vehicle and a century ago  

      was an important part of American culture; and


       WHEREAS, while the ______ member strong San Francisco Bike Coalition (SFBC)

       has been busy weaving the bicycle back into the  lives of San Franciscans; and


      WHEREAS, the SFBC has re-established  the bicycle as an important user of the 

      roads America's love affair with the  automobile covered the city with; and


      WHEREAS, Awake Again" author and NBG Director, Martin Krieg will be reminding 

      America what brought about the first road building in America when he pedals an 1891 

      backwards facing HiWheel bike to Boston in this year's 8th National Mayors' Ride; and


      WHEREAS, in 1914, San Francisco  became the end point for the Lincoln Highway, 

      the first coast-to-coast car highway, the NBG,  seeks to begin the first coast-to-coast 

      bicycle highway in San Francisco 


NOW, THEREFORE, I, THE BIKE MAYOR OF San Francisco  do hereby proclaim May 15, 2010 as "NATIONAL BICYCLE GREENWAY DAY" in San Francisco  , CA
